Child Evangelism Fellowship of Vermont fires director following criminal charges

The Vermont chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) has terminated state director Andrew Buzzell following federal charges related to the distribution of child sexual abuse material. Buzzell, 34, was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont after investigators allegedly linked his personal accounts to the distribution of illicit files via an instant messaging application in 2024.

In a public statement, the CEF Vermont Board of Directors confirmed Buzzell’s immediate termination, expressing grief over the situation while emphasizing their commitment to the organization's mission. The board noted that federal investigators indicated the alleged activities were conducted on personal devices during Buzzell's private time, rather than through ministry equipment.

CEF USA, the national parent organization, stated that it is cooperating with the situation and remains dedicated to its long-standing child protection policies. Buzzell, who also served as an elder at Green Mountain Baptist Church, faces legal proceedings regarding the allegations. The ministry maintains that it continues to uphold strict standards of conduct for all staff and volunteers involved in its global outreach programs.
