CDC Survey Reports Decline in LGB Identification Among U.S. High School Girls
New data from the 2025 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, indicates a notable decrease in the percentage of American high school girls identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. The shift is most pronounced among ninth-grade students, where the percentage of girls identifying as bisexual dropped from 26% in 2021 to 13% in 2025.
Overall, the survey shows that the total percentage of female high school students identifying as LGB fell from 27% in 2023 to 22% in 2025. This downward trend follows a period of rapid increases in such identification reported in previous years. The CDC conducts this nationally representative survey every two years to track health and behavioral trends among students across the United States.
