Labour MP Florence Eshalomi Appointed as New UK Faith Minister

Labour MP Florence Eshalomi has been appointed as the United Kingdom's new faith minister. Her portfolio within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government also encompasses responsibilities for homelessness, social cohesion, democracy, and elections.

Eshalomi, who represents Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, is a practicing Catholic and an active member of the Christians in Parliament group. She also serves as the chair of Friends of CAFOD, an organization that supports the work of the Catholic aid agency within the legislative body. Before her parliamentary career began in 2019, she served as a local councillor and a member of the London Assembly.

In addition to her faith-related duties, Eshalomi will oversee the government's approach to homelessness. Drawing on her own childhood experience of living in temporary accommodation, she has emphasized the importance of secure housing in helping individuals feel valued and integrated into their communities. Her previous experience includes chairing the House of Commons Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee.
