Church of England bishops report growing interest in Christian faith
Church of England bishops have highlighted a shift in spiritual interest, noting that many individuals, particularly the younger generation, are increasingly exploring the Christian faith. Bishop Ruth Bushyager of Horsham, speaking at the Christians in Media ‘Engage’ conference, suggested that many seekers are first encountering the gospel through digital media, such as podcasts and online clips, rather than traditional church settings. She encouraged media professionals to recognize their role on the frontline of this cultural shift.
Similarly, the Bishop of Blackburn, Philip North, has called for churches to move past a long-standing narrative of decline. Addressing his diocesan synod, he reported signs of a “rebirth” in Lancashire, with churches welcoming new families and young adults who began their faith journeys online. Bishop North emphasized the need for the Church to prepare for this renewed interest as it prepares to launch a new diocesan vision, "Joyful Followers of Jesus," which focuses on evangelism and the development of new Christian leaders.
