Digital Bible Engagement Surges Across Sub-Saharan Africa
New data from the Bible technology ministry YouVersion indicates a significant rise in daily digital Bible engagement across Sub-Saharan Africa throughout 2026. The region experienced a 63% increase in daily app usage, substantially outpacing the 13% growth recorded globally. Among the most notable increases were Senegal and Zimbabwe, both reporting a 72% rise in daily users, followed by Ethiopia at 52% and the Democratic Republic of Congo at 48%.
Other nations across the continent also saw marked growth, including Uganda at 41%, Nigeria at 37%, and Kenya at 36%. YouVersion noted that Kenya maintained its position as the fifth-ranked country worldwide for daily Bible engagement throughout the year, with a nearly 50% increase in users participating in annual Bible reading plans. The organization attributed part of this regional momentum to the opening of a new hub in Nairobi in February 2026, which aims to foster stronger partnerships with local churches and content creators. While the data highlights specific areas of rapid growth rather than a comprehensive global ranking, the figures suggest that Africa is currently a primary driver of digital scripture engagement.
