Bear Grylls Reflects on Russell Brand’s Baptism Following Criminal Conviction
Television personality and author Bear Grylls recently addressed his role in the 2024 baptism of comedian Russell Brand, which took place in the River Thames. Following Brand’s conviction by a London jury on charges of rape and sexual assault, Grylls emphasized that his participation in the baptism was rooted in the Christian calling to love and serve others. Grylls stated that he believes it is the “sick that need healing” and noted that he has previously visited prisons to minister to individuals who have committed serious offenses.
In his public comments, Grylls expressed that judgment remains the domain of the courts and God. He acknowledged the gravity of the legal proceedings, describing the victims as the “heroes of the day” and stating that he could not imagine the difficulty they have endured. Brand, who shared images of the baptism on social media, has been remanded into custody following his conviction on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He is currently awaiting sentencing, while police continue to investigate additional allegations.
