Author Henry Hastings Explores Shift from Cessationism to Continuationism

In his new book, UnRedacted: Awakening to the Life God Actually Intended, author Henry Hastings details his personal theological transition from cessationism to continuationism. A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and former U.S. Army Green Beret, Hastings explains that his previous training led him to believe that miraculous spiritual gifts ceased with the apostolic age. However, he describes encountering experiences that challenged his existing framework, prompting him to re-examine his interpretation of Scripture.

Hastings argues that many evangelical churches have inadvertently "redacted" portions of the Bible, specifically pointing to the roles of apostles and prophets mentioned in Ephesians 4 and the spiritual gifts outlined in 1 Corinthians. He encourages believers to prioritize a comprehensive reading of the New Testament over rigid theological systems. By revisiting passages in Acts and 1 Corinthians, Hastings seeks to demonstrate that the gifts of the Holy Spirit remain active and necessary for the contemporary Church, framing his journey as a process of moving deeper into biblical study rather than abandoning his theological roots.
