Prominent Christian apologist William Lane Craig has drawn significant criticism following the circulation of a video clip in which he questions the doctrine of the eternal generation of the Son. In the discussion, originally recorded in May 2026, Craig stated that he does not believe or confess that the Son is eternally begotten of the Father in His divine nature. He argued that this concept is not supported by the New Testament and instead originated from second-century Logos Christology.

Craig, a professor emeritus of philosophy at Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology, suggested that the term "only begotten" in the Gospel of John refers to Christ’s human nature rather than an eternal divine process.
