Redeemed Christian Church of God funds repatriation of Nigerians from South Africa

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has launched a humanitarian initiative to facilitate the return of at least 500 Nigerians from South Africa. The church, which is one of Africa's largest Pentecostal denominations, is funding the air travel for these individuals following an appeal from the Nigerian diplomatic mission. The operation is being conducted in response to concerns regarding the safety of Nigerians in South Africa amid reports of xenophobic tensions.

The first group of 100 returnees arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on September 24. Upon arrival, they were processed by Nigerian government agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. Pastor Belemina Obunge, who chairs the RCCG task force for this mission, stated that the intervention was approved by General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye and is open to Nigerians of all faiths, not exclusively church members.

While the initial target is 500 adults, organizers noted that the final count may increase once children and infants are included. The returnees are being transported in batches to ensure proper documentation and clearance. Pastor Obunge has encouraged state governments to support the reintegration of these citizens as they return to their home regions.
