Dr. Florence Muindi Appointed Chair of Association of Evangelicals in Africa Health Commission
Dr. Florence Muindi, a physician and founder of the organization Life in Abundance, has been appointed as the new chair of the Health Commission for the Association of Evangelicals in Africa. With over three decades of experience working in marginalized communities across 12 African nations, Muindi aims to integrate professional medical practice with Christian ministry. She emphasizes that addressing the continent's healthcare challenges requires leaders who view service as a spiritual calling rather than solely a career.
Addressing the current state of African healthcare, Muindi noted that while infrastructure and communication technology have improved significantly since the 1980s, a critical gap remains between the supply of trained professionals and the actual delivery of care. Citing World Health Organization projections of a 5.85 million health worker shortage by 2030, she highlighted the paradox of having nearly one million trained professionals who are currently unemployed or underemployed. Muindi advocates for a reimagined approach to public health that prioritizes accessibility and mission-driven leadership to better serve the continent's most vulnerable populations.
