Adam Hamilton Senate Campaign Faces Renewed Allegations Regarding Past Abuse Handling

United Methodist pastor Adam Hamilton, currently running for a U.S. Senate seat in Kansas, is facing renewed scrutiny over his handling of sexual abuse allegations involving a church volunteer two decades ago. A campaign advertisement released by his opponent, incumbent Senator Roger Marshall, alleges that Hamilton failed to report a 2005 incident at a Church of the Resurrection youth camp to law enforcement and allowed the accused volunteer, Scott Moore, to continue serving at the church.

The advertisement, part of a $1.2 million campaign buy, claims that parents were ignored and that Moore was permitted to remain in contact with youth. These allegations previously surfaced during the Democratic primary in May, when state Senator Patrick Schmidt accused Hamilton of a cover-up. Trial testimony cited in reports indicates that some victims felt dismissed by church leadership at the time of the initial incident.

In response, a spokesperson for the Hamilton campaign characterized the advertisement as a "shameful attack" by a political opponent. The campaign maintains that the church did report the incidents to authorities and asserts that Hamilton personally assisted in efforts that eventually led to the perpetrator's conviction.
