Pastor Adam Hamilton debates gender and sports policy in Kansas Senate race

During a televised debate on October 21, 2026, Kansas U.S. Senate candidate and United Methodist pastor Adam Hamilton stated his belief that there are two genders, male and female. Hamilton, who leads the multisite Resurrection Church, also expressed opposition to biological males competing in girls' sports, citing concerns regarding fairness and the safety of his granddaughter. While he agreed with his opponent, incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall, on these specific points, Hamilton argued that such policies should be determined by local organizations rather than the federal government.

Senator Marshall questioned whether Hamilton would maintain these positions if elected, suggesting that Hamilton would ultimately align with Democratic leadership in Washington on transgender issues. In response, Hamilton stated he would not support Senator Chuck Schumer for majority leader. He further criticized Marshall’s approach to the topic, emphasizing that his own ministry is guided by the biblical principle of loving one's neighbor and protecting those who are bullied.
