Anglican Church in North America Deposes Former Chaplaincy Bishop

The Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) has officially deposed Bishop Derek Jones, the former leader of the Jurisdiction of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy. The decision followed a ruling by the ACNA Court for the Trial of a Bishop, which found Jones guilty of four counts of violating canon law. In a formal statement, the ACNA College of Bishops cited a long-standing pattern of wickedness, cruelty, and abuse of power directed toward chaplains under his authority.

The College of Bishops expressed deep regret for failing to address these concerns earlier and announced plans to provide pastoral and canonical support to affected chaplains. They emphasized that the disciplinary action was intended to protect the church and encourage repentance.

Jones previously left the ACNA to help launch the Anglican Reformed Catholic Church (ARCC). In response to the deposition, the ARCC stated that the ACNA's decision has no practical effect, arguing that Jones was no longer under their jurisdiction. The ARCC characterized the move as a power struggle rather than a matter of theological or gospel-centered discipline.
