Community Gathers in Biloxi to Remember Nolan Wells and Seek Answers

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Greater St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Biloxi, Mississippi, to mark what would have been the 19th birthday of Nolan Wells. The event brought together family, civil rights leaders, and local residents to honor the teenager, who was found dead on July 6 following a Fourth of July boat trip to Horn Island. While his friends returned from the excursion, Wells remained missing until search crews discovered his body in the water the following day.

Presiding over the service, AME Bishop Erika Crawford encouraged attendees to trust in God while seeking clarity regarding the circumstances of Wells’s death. Speakers at the event addressed the ongoing investigation, with some participants raising concerns about the role of race and potential intimidation tactics directed at the family. The gathering emphasized a commitment to uncovering the truth, as the community continues to grapple with unanswered questions surrounding the incident amid a climate of local distrust toward law enforcement.
