American Bible Society Report Notes Increase in Church Attendance

A new report from the American Bible Society indicates that approximately 8 million more Americans attended a Christian church service at least twice in 2025 compared to 2023. The findings, part of the 16th annual State of the Bible report, show that Generation X and Millennials were the primary drivers of this growth, with weekly attendance rising in both cohorts. Conversely, Generation Z was the only demographic to experience a decline, with attendance dropping from 46% to 42% over the two-year period.

The research also highlights a significant gender gap, noting that over half of Christian men in the United States do not attend church monthly. Dr. John F. Plake, the report's editor-in-chief, identified this as a specific pastoral challenge, suggesting that church leaders have an opportunity to engage young men through deeper Scripture study. Among those who do attend, satisfaction remains high, with congregants rating the spiritual health of their churches an average of 8 out of 10.
