Survey Highlights Growth and Theological Challenges Among UK Evangelicals

A recent State of Theology survey indicates a notable shift in United Kingdom church demographics, reporting that 28% of evangelicals began attending services as adults within the last two years. While this influx of new attendees is viewed as a positive trend for church growth, the data also highlights significant gaps in doctrinal alignment among these newcomers.

The survey findings suggest that many recent attendees hold views that diverge from traditional evangelical teachings. Specifically, 71% of these new evangelicals believe that God accepts worship from all religions, and 57% express skepticism regarding the literal truth of the Bible.

In response to these findings, Ligonier Ministries emphasizes the necessity for local congregations to prioritize robust discipleship and faithful biblical teaching. The organization suggests that as churches welcome new visitors, they have a responsibility to provide clear instruction on core Christian doctrines to help believers grow in their understanding of the faith. To assist in this process, the ministry has released a free digital study guide designed to facilitate congregational discussions on these theological topics.
