Fatal shooting occurs at historic North Carolina camp meeting

A fatal shooting took place early Sunday morning at the Tucker’s Grove Camp Meeting in Lincoln County, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. as the historic African American religious gathering, which has operated since the 1870s, was preparing for its final day of services. Deputies already on-site for security provided emergency medical assistance, but the victim later died at Atrium Main hospital.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting followed a disturbance involving a firearm. The suspect fled the scene while being pursued by law enforcement. Authorities have not released further details, citing an active investigation, and are currently seeking information from the public to assist in identifying the perpetrator. The event, which typically spans ten days, had hosted a concert on the grounds earlier that evening.
